What can I do for allergy relief?
Question by Andrea: What can I do for allergy relief?
I go for allergy shots but I’ve missed about a month (I know, but it’s been a busy month). I have taken various anti-histamines over the years and if they work at first, after an extended period they are no longer effective and that’s the point I’m back to now.
I’ve taken: Benadryl, Allegra, Tylenol Allergy, Claritin, Claritin-D, Nasonex, Zyrtec, and Zyrtec-D (latest one that stopped working).
The only thing that really works long term is the shots but I called and can’t get in until Wednesday. I can’t even sit in my living room or work at my desk without enduring sneezing fits that create more and more sinus pressure and inflammation. I’m really miserable and my snoring is keeping my partner up at night.
If someone could suggest ANYTHING that might be helpful I would really appreciate it, otherwise I’m just going to keep trying to double duty with my nasal spray and Zyrtec-D (I’m really hoping the pseudoephedrine will help with the swelling inside my nasal passages) and maybe Neti-Pot and just try to tolerate it as best I can. :[ Help?
I have been to an allergist (thus the shots) and I have confirmed that I have some minor outdoor allergies but little things like dust and animal dander really set me off. I have a dog who is basically hypoallergenic and I’m a clean freak, even at work.
Also, Clarinex is loratadine based (same as Claritin) and I’ve already developed an immunity to that.
Thank you both for your suggestions though.

My hubby is allergic to roses, and he also has hay fever. I just couldn’t believe he’s allergic to roses, so we planted 5 in our bedroom window. He still get hay fever, but now we have 56 roses in our yard. So, that’s just in his head about the roses.
You need to find out EXACTLY what you’re allergic to, and eliminate them. It sounds to me like you’re just doing more harm than good, taking something for them, instead of doing something about it. Didn’t say you haven’t been to see an allergy doctor, but mom had scratched like a dog for 21 years, and just minutes before she died (she had cancer) she was mumbling something like: of all the doctors I’ve seen, and medications I’ve taken, they still can’t figure out the reason why I scratched!)
